The Zanzibar Employment Act no 11 of 2005 has been amended

The Act has been amended by The Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendment) Act, No.5 of 2022 signed on the 21st of July 2022. The change is to Section 36 of the act by repealing subsection 6 of section 36 and replacing it with new subsection 6 as well as adding a new sub section 7 to read as that, Any Foreigner Married to a Zanzibari in accordance with the laws and procedures acceptance in Zanzibar and who is ordinarily resident in Zanzibar for at least three years shall not be treated as foreigner provided that he possesses a special recognition letter issued by the commissioner and that the special recognition letter shall be valid for a period of a work permit and may be renewed for a further period of upon application made to the commissioner.

The change is to the effect that not only the marriage must have been for three years but now the foreigner must have resided in Zanzibar for three years. It also adds a special recognition letter by the commissioner.
